NWA and Independent Ramble Thread

I see that NWA signed a deal with the Roku channel. Guess that deal with the CW didn't pan out like they thought it would after WWE moved NXT there.

I need to get to an indie show. Been too long

I just saw that too. Love to see them get that type of exposure.

I mean I have a soft spot for the NWA but at this point I am kind of meh just because they supported Tyrus at champ and just never apologized having such a piece of shit transphobe on their roster. They brought in Max the Impaler I think to help their image and tried to bring in Effy for the same reason but he told Billy to fuck himself.

I can definitely understand and respect that. Hard to get excited about something that gives you that vibe. For me personally, Wrestling is complex like that in organizations as I weekly watch organizations that have terrible people they have and do support on an ongoing basis.

I really don't follow much of Tyrus outside the ring, as he falls under the Fox news "random celebrity people that can only make me dumber by listening to them" category. And I'm sure I've missed things with any reply Corgan has made. The couple interviews I've heard from him, I thought he had interesting takes and philosophies.

I never really remember hearing him address Tyrus' views which kind of irks me. I mean I like Billy and again I have a soft spot for the NWA and I love that he has kept it going but just hard to support too much. I know when they were doing the Wrestling at the Chase which is cool that they did that for a few anniversary shows and the women's only show a lot of the local indie companies after Tyrus was champ wouldn't promote or have any of their guys/gals on the show.

Tyrus did actually come up in a political conversation a few years ago. I have no issue when someone recommends someone for me to give a chance to as a commentator, as I've discovered some interesting perspectives that way (most of them come from Mrs. Mazer-she knows how my filtering works).

But I have a big pet peeve when someone gets aggressive about me listening to their favorite. A few years back, a genuine friend was trying to get me to give whatever Tyrus's group show is/was a chance. Part of their premise was largely about Tyrus and his professional wrestling background would make me enjoy it. After some lighthearted, "There was nothing about his work with the Funkadactyls that recommends him to me as an analyst", the argument persisted for an annoyingly long time.

Eventually I said "If I made a list of 50 commentators I was considering listening to, and ranked them by overall intelligence and expert level specific knowledge-what are the chances Tyrus makes the top 30? Because honestly, if he can't crack that I don't have the time. And I don't need to subcontract out my ability to ragescroll social media. I can do that independently".

So, I was a bit of an ass. Really never had another convo like that with them. I guess they just really enjoyed something on that show that week.

You totally should. There are a couple of them I have not gone to yet that I need to hit up and obviously I am always up for a Glory Pro show. Dijack is on the next one in July and of course your all time favorite Danhausen.

There is a combined show coming up to benefit a local guy that tore his quad and had surgery. He had just returned in the last few months from surgery after tearing the other quad. Great talent and hate to see him out so I thinking about trying to go

I was thinking there will probably be sometime I head out that way in the next few months. I might head to St Louis, as I want to get my Class A coaching certification done, and they have a lot more weekends to choose from in St Louis than they do out here (as least for MO carded coaches).
